The 2012 Writers Guild Awards were held on both coasts, with Zooey Deschanel and Joel McHale co-hosting a ceremony at the Palladium in Los Angeles, and east coast-based celebs gathering at B.B. King Blues Club & Grille in New York on February 19th.
According to the Daily Mail, Deschanel wore a vintage plaid gown by Shareen, cinched at the waist with a satin bow. ”Welcome to Nerd Prom,” Deschanel said to her audience. ”Male writers, you are so hot with your minds and plaid shirts. Hit on me.”
Octavia Spencer, in a dress by Tadashi Shoji with Stuart Weitzman shoes, watched as The Help‘s writer and director Tate Taylor accepted the 2012 Paul Selvin Award for focusing on the spirit of civil rights. ”It’s my first adaptation, which I think was a blessing because I just went for it,” Taylor told reporters backstage, adding that the movie was a “labor of love,” according to Reuters.
The Descendants walked away with Best Adapted Screenplay and Woody Allen won Best Original Screenplay for Midnight In Paris.
Also at the ceremony were Jackson Rathbone, Amanda Peet, Kiernan Shipka, Amy Poehler (who was a genius this past weekend on SNL), Bryan Cranston, Judd Apatow, Kristen Wiig, Alexander Payne, Tate Taylor, Leslie Mann, and Jimmy Fallon.
