‘Tis the season for music festival line-up announcements. While major festivals such as Coachella and SXSW grabbed most of the blog headlines recently, a newer festival jumped the gate this year with one of the most impressive line-ups of the season. Bonnaroo, first held in 2002 on a 700-acre Manchester, Tennessee farm, snagged the reunited Police to headline their four day music marathon.
Although most considered Bonnaroo a jam-band festival, the 2007 roster features some of the hottest names in rock: The White Stripes, Damien Rice, Tool, The Decemberists, Kings of Leon, Regina Spektor, The Hold Steady, Hot Chip, Lily Allen, The Flaming Lips, and the Cold War Kids. Jam-bands still represent with heavyweights like Widespread Panic, Bob Weir & Ratdog, and The String Cheese Incident.
Don’t count this festival out–it might be a new-ish thing in the middle of nowhere, but Rolling Stone magazine counted it’s 2004 festival as one of the fifty moments “to change the history of rock and roll.” This year promises to be no different; over one-hundred musical acts acts and twenty comedians (including David Cross and Lewis Black) performing on 13 stages beginning June 14. Tickets go on sale February 23 rd at noon from www.bonnaroo.com. I suggest scooping up your tickets ASAP.
