The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Queen Elizabeth, Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, David Cameron and his wife, Samantha, Princess Anne, London Mayor Boris Johnson and Lord Sebastian Coe at the London 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony tonight (August 29th).
Catherine wore her champagne brocade coat by DAY by Birger/Mikkelsen (thank you What Kate Wore!), a piece that’s been part of her personal wardrobe since we first saw it in 2006 at Laura Parker Bowles’ wedding. HRH has worn it a few times since then, most recently at Zara Phillips’ wedding in July 2011.
It is with tremendous pride that the people of London and the United Kingdom welcome the world to the London 2012 Paralympic Games,” Her Majesty said at the games, according to the Daily Mail.
‘The Games are returning to the country where they first began, more than 60 years ago. We look forward to celebrating the uplifting spirit which distinguishes the Paralympic Games from other events, drawing on Britain’s unique sporting heritage.”
Both William and Catherine, along with Prince Harry, are Team GB Paralympic Ambassadors. Despite Harry’s absence from tonight’s festivities, he will attend some events in the next 11 days.
