David Fincher was looking for a relative unknown to star in his upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and her certainly got one.
Rooney Mara will play the lead in all three of his adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s The Millennium Trilogy. Rooney will be starring opposite the previously announced Daniel Craig.
Apparently Mara beat out big name actresses like Kristen Stewart, Natalie Portman, Cary Mulligan and Emma Watson for the role and will star alongside Robin Wright and Stellan Skarsgard. The film is set to begin filming next month in Sweden and expected to be released on Dec. 21, 2011.
Sure, it’s probably a risk to use someone who is so relatively unknown (although she was in Fincher’s The Social Network so maybe she’ll be coming up in the world once Tattoo hits), but I think that with a movie that is so iconic after a HIT book they are wise to put someone new in the role.
Check out Mara at the premiere A Nightmare on Elm Street in LA earlier this year!
