After months of anticipation, and one much-buzzed about tease at Comic-Con, the world was finally treated to the first trailer for Johnny Depp‘s high octane western The Lone Ranger last night.
Starring Armie Hammer as the title masked man and Depp as his faithful sidekick, Tonto, this version of The Lone Ranger is more like an action packed buddy movie than you might have expected. Check out the trailer below.
“It’s a dysfunctional buddy movie,” director Gore Verbinski, who worked with Depp on the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, told USA Today. “It’s two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different world views. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements.”
The Lone Ranger follows native American spirit warrior Tonto who recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice-taking. The two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
The highly-anticipated Western movie is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. cinemas on July 3, 2013.
