Awards season has kicked off, and star-gazers galore are wondering, “If not Hugh, then who? Who will host?” Host what, you ask? The Oscars, dear friends. The Superbowl of all award shows. A splendid celebration of unmedicated talent. Last year’s host, Hugh Jackman, will not return. And Ricky Gervais is already hosting the Golden Globes in January. Fruitless! And so, the search goes on.
Eonline looked to Johnny Avello, director of sports race and sports operations at The Wynn and Encore by day, Oscar handicapper by night. Though some are hoping this year’s Emmy Host, Neil Patrick Harris, is selected for the big night, Avello doubts it. Though he’s proven himself in 2009 (TVLand Awards, Tonys, Emmys), people might not want to see Harris host a fourth show.
“‘That’s what he has going against him: Do we want to see his face that many times this year?’ Avello asked.”
A leading contender, according to Avello? Nine-time host Billy Crystal, with a 5-2 bet to return. I’m having a Tom Selleck/Ted Danson moment (don’t ask), so I like those odds. Other potential contenders are Chevy Chase, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin and David Lettermen (although unlikely).
Do tell, socialites. Are you disappointed Hugh Jackman isn’t returning? Who are you interested in seeing host the 2010 Academy Awards?
