Usher Helps Teens At Camp New Look

July 29th, 2008 // 10 Comments

Usher has gone above and beyond when it comes to giving back. The singer started his own camp for promising teens from some of the toughest neighborhoods across the country, flying them in for two weeks at Georgia Tech University.

The kids are given seminars and hands on workshops across all areas of entertainment and business.

“It’s no different than planting a seed,” Usher said of his Camp New Look, and the R&B singer has been quite the cultivator at the camp. He comes multiple times to help out and sometimes just hang out.

“They learn what I’ve learned. And that will give them the opportunity to have a future as a businessman or a businesswoman,” he said.

As a Mogul in Training(MIT), I thoroughly enjoyed learning about business aspect of the entertainment industry; I gained much knowledge about marketing, strategic thinking, and the steps in developing a business plan. Additionally, I was impressed with the business course because of the phenomenal staff; they had academic backgrounds from prestigious schools. On a final note, I loved the fact that Usher doesn’t just put his name on anything. He was definitely involved at camp from the voter registration drive to random visits with campers. I simply loved it!

I would like for my 13 year old to attend your camp. We live in Gainesville, FL. She is the oldest of my five children. Her father has been absent in her life for eleven years in every way and will not even pay child support. Jonquil has written two songs and several poems.
