Toni Braxton has had a myriad of health problems throughout her life so it’s unfortunate and sad that she’s announced yesterday that she is battling lupus, a potentially deadly autoimmune disease.
The singer revealed the news at a luncheon benefiting lupus awareness and told the crowd, ”Take a look, this is what lupus looks like.”
Braxton accepted one of two Women in Achievement awards at the 8th Annual bag Ladies Luncheon. (Rachel Zoe received the other one.) Lady Gaga, who spoke up earlier this year about testing ‘borderline positive’ for lupus, bought ad space for Braxton in the event, writing the message, ”Toni, your strength is admirable. As a woman whose family has been affected by lupus, I understand your struggle and have you in my thoughts. —Gaga.”
Braxton, a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association, suffers from pericarditis, an inflamation of the heart lining that has left her prone to high blood pressure and heart palpitations. She also had a benign tumor removed from her breast shortly after appearing on Dancing With The Stars in 2008.
Our thoughts go out to Toni. Stay strong!
