Tim Burton And Johnny Depp Are Fangtastic
Vampires are extremely in right now, but never has a vampire film come about so perfectly that it makes us wonder why we didn’t think of it in the first place. Reports have surfaced that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are teaming up for their eighth collaboration to make a film version of the late sixties television show Dark Shadows.
The show, which ran from 1966 to 1971, was a Gothic soap about vampires, ghosts, and monsters, focusing primarily on the 175-year-old vampire Barabas Collins. Johnny would play Barnabas who stalks the town of Collinsport, Maine yearning for his lost love.
Both Johnny and Tim have been fans of the show and obsessing over it for years. “”I was obsessed with Barnabas Collins. I have photographs of me holding Barnabas Collins posters when I was five or six,” Johnny says. “It had the weirdest vibe to it. I’m sort of intrigued about that vibe,” said Tim. Apparently, Johnny has been trying to get the film made for a while and even owns the rights to the remake through his production company, Infinitum-Nihil.
Although both Johnny and Tim are very excited about it, it could take a little while for it happen. At the moment, Johnny is busy filming The Rum Diary and Tim is busy putting the finishing touches on his most recent Johnny flick Alice In Wonderland, which the two promoted at Comic-Con. Johnny is also obligated to start shooting the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie in April or May of 2010, meaning that earliest they’d be able to get to Dark Shadows would be in late 2010 or early 2011.
If they want to ride on the coattails of the latest vampire craze, they need to get the film out by 2011, in which case in would coincide with the fourth Twilight film, Breaking Dawn. Dark Shadows will definitely be a darker film than Twilight, so it remains to be seen how fans of Twilight will react to it. I know I’ll enjoy it! Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Vampires, I mean seriously, does it get any better than that? Nope, I didn’t think so.
