A channel on the ol’ tube is under fire in India. It’s “raunchy broadcasts” at peak times for children to be glued to the tv set has the country’s information minister warning media. The AXN channel was the latest to fall prey to adult content ban when it aired, “The World’s Sexiest Advertisements.”
It isn’t the first time that FTV has been come the microscope. In 2002 the channel was banned for allowing too much exposed skin. Catering to the demands, FTV promised to walk the line and is again airing. Yet again, the channel is the subject of debate.
‘I have got the highest number of complaints from schools, colleges about Fashion TV operations. The kind of things they show, even in school-time, examination-time, daytime, I think that’s not fair. I straightly, plainly tell you, it is time for Fashion TV channel to think of whether they should confine their programming beyond 11 (p.m.)” Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, the information and broadcasting minister, explained.
The problem sights sexy dancers in a music video and suggestive advertisements that include a woman provocatively licking an ice cream cone.
