The Ian Somerhalder Foundation Will Help ‘Generation Extinction’ Save The Environment

December 6th, 2010 // 1 Comment

Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder has started a foundation in partnership with Conservation International to raise money for habitat preservation. The Louisiana-born actor was devastated when the BP oil spill ravaged his coastal hometown.

The Somerhalder Foundation will work to promote kids’ and young people’s interest in causes like protecting the Galapagos and the world’s rainforests.

“There’s Generation X. There’s Generation Y. This generation is Generation Extinction,” Somerhalder said.”This generation holds that in their hands – the responsibility of it, and the power to change it. They have the ability to make the changes for themselves and for their environment. It’s pretty badass, if you think about how much they can do.”

Somerhalder is a celeb definitely known for his bite, so I’m sure we’ll hearing lots more about this project. Why’d he wait so long? “I never wanted to be one of those actors with a political agenda,” Somerhalder, pictured at LAX yesterday, explained. Well, welcome to the club!

I have just written a trilogy. It is about saving the waters of the earth. It is called the NaLee series. The first and second books are out. Pre-teen and up, NaLee and Fire and Ice strongly suggest the readers to take more action in watching what they do to their environment around them. Mermaids, dragons, a 16 year old boy named Frances all bring this trilogy together. Check it out at NaLee2010.com
