This weekend I was lucky enough to get an up-close and personal look at Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Not the movie, mind you, the awesome Lego replica built by Ryan Ziegelbauer and his team in honor of the movie’s DVD and Blu-Ray release on June 17, which was unveiled at The Grove in LA yesterday. And you guys! It is awesome! Just like Lego song promises!
The building contains over 50,000 Lego bricks and took more than 575 hours to build. That’s like 3 week. Can you imagine?
Luckily Ryan–a professional Lego builder himself–had a great time doing it. “I really like Wes Anderson films, I’ve been a fan for a long time, and I saw The Grand Budapest Hotelthis winter, loved it and thought the hotel was amazing.” And he’s right. Plus it gave him the opportunity to use all the pink Lego bricks he ever wanted.
Tony Revoloti, who you might recognize as lobby boy Zero in the film, was also on hand for the big unveiling, and is still riding high from his role in the movie. “It was a dream come true.” And Tony was super up for our celebrity crush game. After a lot of deliberation, he finally arrived at his answer, “Christina Hendricks. She’s absolutely gorgeous, she’s amazing on [Made Men] and in Drive.” Tony, I have to agree.
If you are in the LA area, I recommending checking out the model while its at the Grove, before it moves to the Architecture and Design museum in LA. After that? Who knows!
