Few engagements have touched me as much as William and Catherine’s. I watched every single piece of footage from their November 16th, 2010 announcement at Clarence House, an impromptu photocall that not even his dad and grandmother knew was happening until the morning of.
Kate walked confidently into a sea of flashing lights at St. James’s Palace, so out-of-her-mind happy to be marrying the love of her life. There, she and the now Duke of Cambridge gave only a few details of their engagement away: It took place in Kenya, William is a “true romantic” and that the ring once belonged to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Edible replicas of the blue sapphire Garrard ring, Kate’s blue Issa London dress and the couple’s royal monogram were placed upon four different cupcakes. The flavors are perfect for this time of year: Pumpkin pie, salted caramel pecan, red velvet and lemon cream cheese.
We also spoke with David Maislish, author of Assassination: The Royal Family’s 1000 Year Curse. Maislish’s fascinating book reveals the many assassination attempts on the kings and queens of England, the strange rules of succession and why the House of Windsor can survive today.
We talked shop (Kate and outfit repeats = WINNING), Camilla’s future with the monarchy, and Pippa Middleton‘s struggle as a new author.
