The ‘American Idol’ Top Two Are Scotty McCreery & Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart Eliminated

The American Idol finalists have now been decided, after the latest hopeful got the boot. Haley Reinhart won’t be competing in this season’s final showdown.

The final elimination from the top-rated television show left deep voiced 17-year-old country singer Scotty McCreery to battle it out with pop/country singer Lauren Alaina, 16, for the 2011 American Idol title next week.

Reinhart, the bluesy 20-year-old vocalist, best known for her signature singing snarl, was revealed to have received the fewest viewer votes on the Fox talent contest. “I rocked it out, and I had a blast,” Haley said after her elimination.

Haley had always seemed doomed on Idol. Unlike her remaining rivals, cherubic country crooners Scotty and Lauren, the wavy-haired Haley had been less definable and garnered fewer votes, landing at the bottom as one of the show’s low vote-getters four times after weak performances of such songs as LeAnn Rimes’ “Blue” and Blondie’s “Call Me.”

Here is my take on America’s issue with Haley, she always seemed like she had a chip on her shoulder. She showed anger and indifference throughout the season, and America really doesn’t cuddle up to that. She was a hell of a singer, but as Pia Toscano knows, it’s not just about the singing. America has to really, really like you.
