Well folks, the 2013 American Music Awards happened tonight. So that’s a thing.
If you missed tonight’s telecast, don’t worry. We’ll recap all the best bits for you so you don’t have to sit through the whole thing. Unless you want to. In which case, pour yourself some wine.
Things got off to an interesting start with Katy Perry‘s Japanese inspired performance of “Unconditionally”. Despite being a little off key, Katy was actually pretty good. Although I still don’t get what the geisha look had to do with anything.
Obviously the big winners of the night were Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift. Justin took home three awards: Pop/Rock Male Artist, Soul/R&B Male Artist and Soul/R&B Album for The 20/20 Experience. Look at you, JT, crossing all the genres. Taylor didn’t seem too surprised with her three wins for Artist of the Year, Country Album for Red and Country Female Artist.
The cutest part of the night was obviously when Rihanna‘s mother presented her with the Icon Award. I love when award shows do sappy stuff like this.
Now, about those performances. Clearly my favorite was One Direction because I love 1D no matter what. I didn’t really understand the point of Jennifer Lopez‘s performance, Justin Timberlake looked good in that suit and Lady Gaga and R.Kelly grinding on each other is something I don’t ever need to see again. Although if I’m being honest, their performance was pretty good.
Still, nothing could have prepared me for Miley Cyrus‘ cat-tastrophe . Miley performed “Wrecking Ball” wearing a cat bikini, massive earrings and with a giant cat projection singing along behind her. I can’t decide if it was brilliant or absurd. Also, this cat did not seem amused.
All I can say right now, is that the show is over and we’ve got the full list of winners, plus plenty of crazy photos from the show in the gallery. So what did you think of this years AMAs? Sound off in the comments!
