Target Will Not Carry Frank Ocean’s New Album ‘Channel Orange’

July 12th, 2012 // 1 Comment

Target, one of the country’s larget music sellers, refuses to carry Frank Ocean‘s Channel Orange. The reason? Target claims it is because the CD was released a week earlier exclusively on iTunes. Target released a statement saying “so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are released digitally in advance of the street date.”

Ocean’s Manager, Christian Clancy, is arguing another reason. He tweeted ”Target has refused to carry Frank’s album because of iTunes exclusive. Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations.” Clancy is alluding to Ocean’s recent Tumblr post where he admitted at one point having romantic feelings for man.

Clancy’s argument? Jay- Z and Kanye West released their Watch The Throne album four days earlier on iTunes, and Target still carried it in stores. Something doesn’t add up.

Target’s argument? Well, they are claiming no such thing. Granted they do carry Elton John CDs.

Either way it is Target’s loss. Channel Orange is definitely a masterpiece, to say the least.

What do you all think? Who’s side are you on?

Um, why is this an issue? Nobody buys CDs anymore. Target would lose money, and the albums would just sit on the shelf. Way to make something out of nothing.
