T is For Torture: Sesame Street’s Wartime Uses [PHOTOS]

Nevermind that Sesame Street was the toast of 42nd street tonight (May 31st).  These muppets know how to interrogate!  While Elmo and the gang gathered with Jon Stewart at the 10th Annual Benefit Gala at Cipriani 42nd street in New York City, Al Jazeera is pointing fingers at the gang for torturing inmates at Guantanamo Bay.  WHUCK?

Composer Christopher Cerf, the man responsible for music sheets of destruction, was floored when he heard the accusation.  “My first reaction was this just can’t possibly be true,” Cerf told Al Jazeer (via Huffington Post).  Apparently prisoners are forced to wear headphones and listed to the educational beats for hours on end.

“Of course I didn’t really like the idea that I was helping break down prisoners,” Cerf added.  “But it was much worse when I heard later that they were actually using the music in Guantanamo to actually do deep, long-term interrogations and obviously to inflict enough pain on prisoners so they would talk.”

Apparently troops in Iraq used the music to make POWS talk, too.
