It’s time everyone.  Time to peel thyself off the couch and work on your fitness.  Don’t worry, I’m in the same boat.  In fact, I was invited to kickstart my metabolism with Andaz West Hollywood‘s newly curated program, Fit@Andaz.  All weekend long I participated in activities that really gave me a good ass-kicking.

First off was a trip to Soul Cycle, a class I’ve heard much about but never tried.  Everyone from Katie Couric to Max Greenfield raves about this spin class that combines cardio and weight lifting, making for one helluva 45-minute class.  I loved it.  I friggin’ loved it.  The lights were off, the music was tailored to the workout and there were candles.  Candles and spinning!  I skipped all the way to my car.  I did, I really did.

After spending Saturday evening with a bunch of pandas on Wilshire, I arose the next morning and headed to Runyon Canyon.  There, Bill from Bikes and Hikes LA took us on a guided hike up the Hollywood Hills.  Bikes and Hikes, a partner of Fit@Andaz, is a full-service bike/hike tour company promoting an eco-friendly, healthy way to enjoy all the glory Los Angeles has to offer.  They do everything from night hikes at Griffith Park to scenic, day-long bike rides around town.

During the hike, I picked trainer Jamie Hanton’s brain about the most effective way to get my cardio on.  Inclines, inclines, inclines he stressed.  Running on a hard, flat surface does damage to the knees, so better to keep the battle uphill.  As for the end of your hike (aka the downhill part), DO NOT RUN.  Running downhill is one of the easiest ways to destroy you knees.  Instead, walk slowly and keep the weight on your heels.

We wrapped the hike and I was pleasantly beat.  A few hours later, I found myself in Andaz’s glorious Panorama room for a Lululemon yoga class, taught by certified yoga instructor Jake Ferree.  He was cute, knowledgeable and remembered everyone’s name.  The poses were hard as hell, but I felt like a cup of jello after, the sign of a good workout.

I talked with fitness expert and personal trainer Chady Dunmore, one of Andaz’s other “curators.”  Dunmore, a fitness model and mother with enviable abs, was game to answer any and all questions I had about cutting out the bad stuff and just feeling more energized in general.  We’ll be seeing more from Dunmore as she helps get us into shape for the summer.

Fit @ Andaz program activities are available to both hotel guests and LA locals. The trainers can be booked as well as coordination with the partners – SoulCycle, Bikes & Hikes and Lululemon.

Be like Fergie.  Work on your fitness.
