“Sopranos” creator David Chase is an artist, so don’t question his ass. A lotta fans of “The Sopranos” were all tormented by the fact that the show ended totally ambiguously and nothing really happened? Yeah? Well, that’s art, bitches! Make of it what you will! I don’t actually watch the show that much but I like the fact that this guy doesn’t feel the need to cater to people.
“I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there,” he says of the final scene.
“No one was trying to be audacious, honest to God,” he adds. “We did what we thought we had to do. No one was trying to blow people’s minds, or thinking, ‘Wow, this’ll (tick) them off.’ People get the impression that you’re trying to (mess) with them and it’s not true. You’re trying to entertain them.”
So there. Chase went on to add that he’s not ruling out a movie in the future but don’t rely on it. I always had a problem with this show because everyone was evil and anyone not evil was pathetic or soon to be dead and there was no one to root for. But then I realized that I’M evil and I grew to like it. Oh, and Jackie Aprile Jr.? Hot. I miss him.
