‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ Lead 2013 Independent Spirit Awards Nominations

Silver Linings Playbook and Moonrise Kingdom

Things are looking good for the Oscar chances for Silver Linings Playbook and Moonrise Kingdom with their receiving five nominations each for this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. The full nominations list is below.

Nominations were announced and presented today by Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards, the Los Angeles Film Festival, and the Film Independent at LACMA Film Series. Award winners will be revealed and honored at the Spirit Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 23, in Santa Monica.

Receiving four noms each were Keep the Lights On, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Middle of Nowhere.

Silver Linings Playbook, a comic drama centered on a man just released from a mental hospital and a troubled young widow, earned lead-acting nominations for Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Moonrise Kingdom, a first-love story between a precocious boy and girl who run away together, received a supporting-actor nomination for Bruce Willis.

Matthew McConaughey received two nominations, for best actor in Killer Joe and supporting actor in Magic Mike. Past Academy Award winner Helen Hunt has a supporting-actress nomination for The Sessions. Child star Quvenzhane Wallis, who had never acted before, has a best-actress nomination for Beasts of the Southern Wild.
