Shirtless Naval Academy Freshman Partake In Annual Herndon Climb
Approximately 1000 Naval Academy freshmen climbed to the top of a 21-foot lard-covered obelisk on Monday afternoon, where they replaced a “dixie cup” hat with a midshipmen’s hat, as part of a decades-old tradition.
After completing this, the freshmen are called “fourth-class midshipmen.” This class completed the task in 1 hour, 32 minutes and 43 seconds. The hat was placed by Patrick Lien from Orlando.
