Hurrah!  The first pictures of Shirley MacLaine filming Downton Abbey in London, England are here!  The Oscar winner will play Lady Cora Grantham’s mother, Martha Levinson, and was in full period costume to film her episodes for season three on February 21st.

“This casting is ingenious,” Brendan Coyle (Mr. Bates) told the Sun (via ST.TV).  “Shirley is very much loved here, her scenes are brilliant and I can assure you she will be a dazzling addition to Downton Abbey.”

MacLaine herself even tweeted from the set last week.  “Everything is going well,” she wrote.  “We shot outside in wind and rain. Love the cast and crew.  Amazing day on Downton Abbey set. I love the British humor and temperament and functionality.

“Maggie [Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess] is so subtle and so much fun!”

We can’t wait to see the Dowager Countess and Martha go at it.
