Most stars have other interests (hopefully, at least) than the film or music industries, and this recent break out star has an intense passion that might surprise you.

Shailene Woodley was photographed for Into The Gloss recently, and the photos are absolutely gorgeous. She has such a natural look, and never looks overly made up. There’s actually a reason for that, as Shailene happens to be a huge environmentalist. Who would have guessed?

Shailene loves acting, of course, but she also actively cares about the earth. “If I wasn’t an actress, I’d probably do something with food. Finding seeds, planting seeds, watching them grow, harvesting the fruits, cooking the fruits, eating them, seeing how my body reacts, and even digesting. I’m fascinated with the entire process.”

She’s also very into making sure her body is healthy, and does it in ways we might not have thought of. She talks about eating clay, swishing with sesame oil, and spreading your legs in the sun to give your lady parts a little vitamin D.To each their own, I suppose.

“So, I’ve discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes. And, this is crazy: it also helps clean heavy metals out of your body. My friend starting eating it and the next day she called me and said, ‘Dude, my shit smells like metal.’” Interesting. I mean, she definitely sounds a lot healthier than the rest of us.

Surprisingly, she also doesn’t do much to her hair, either, which is so not fair. I hate people who can just leave their hair alone and it looks great anyway. “I basically have horse hair. It’s so low-maintenance. The less I put in it, the better. When it was long, I used shampoo from Living Libations, but now it’s really short. I only shampoo it like once a month—the oilier, the better.”

Shailene also isn’t into making herself too fancy. “I respect the establishment, but I don’t sacrifice my own integrity. I wouldn’t wear fake eyelashes or crazy extensions. It’s always me—just maybe the public, pretty-in-a-Cinderella-dress me.” So basically, Shailene is earthy, natural, and would rather be outside planting her own food than twirling around in a ball gown. You learn something new every day.

Hey, the girl is gorgeous, so I guess she’s doing something right.
