Think Before You Ingest

From 2011 until the beginning of 2012, people everywhere were participating in the cinnamon challenge. If you haven’t heard of it yet, you’re probably lucky.

Participants would try to swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon without breathing any of it out. They weren’t allowed to have a drink anything, or eat the tablespoon slowly. You had to take it all at once and try to devour it.

Many people failed repeatedly. They would do it over a sink, or over a surface they didn’t care much about because you were about 95% likely to spit the powder everywhere. It would dry your mouth and throat, making it physically impossible to swallow, regardless of how badly you wanted to.

No one really considered the health risks while trying out this new fad. Swallowing a tablespoon of cinnamon really doesn’t sound that serious, until you learn about all of the health risks. Folks at the Scishow on Youtube really break it down for us. After learning the statistics and risks, the challenge itself is kind of horrifying.

Youtuber, Glozell, participated in the challenge using a ladle similar to one you’d use to get soup out of a pan. If a tablespoon is extremely difficult to swallow, imagine how hard it would be to eat a ladle full of cinnamon. Wondering what happened to her during her attempt at the challenge? Watch the video below!

Did you participate in the challenge, or do you know someone who did? Watch this and consider yourself lucky if you didn’t have to face any negative consequences. Believe me, there are plenty.
