Scarlett Johansson took a bow on opening night of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York last night (January 17th), unaware that dismal reviews were just hours from going to press.
Though the Telegraph told theater-goers that they would not be disappointed by the New York native’s ”charismatic, if at times, slightly breathless performance,” the Financial Times criticized Johansson for her “little insight into the character” (via the BBC).
Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribute had this to say:
Aside from the startling flashes of vulnerability that tear the carapace of Ms. Johansson’s Maggie, there’s scant evidence of subtext, of the thoughts behind the blustery facades.
In this production only Ms. Johansson suggests the tempest in the human heart.
Oh, theater critics.
At the show’s afterparty, Johansson walked the red carpet in Dolce & Gabbana and Irene Neuwirth drop earrings, according to Red Carpet Fashion Awards.
Are you looking forward to Johannson’s performance?
