Ryan Phillippe Trained His Kids On Avoiding The Paparazzi
This weekend was all about the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The stars hit parties and premieres while taking some time to chat about their families. Ryan Phillippe talked to People about his two kids-Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7- with ex Reese Witherspoon, who took the kids to church Easter Sunday with new hubby Jim Toth. Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camilla Alves and their two kids Vida and Levi also attended the same service.
The Bang Bang Club star explained how he briefs his kids on avoiding paparazzi, treating it as a sort of game. Ava and Deacon know to step out the back door if they see the photogs out front, a trick they learned from their dad. He also goes to great lengths to make sure they understand why they’re being photographed. Phillipe said, “Reese and I both do a lot of explaining,” says the actor. “I think the best thing you can do for kids in any situation is to over-explain even, and really go into detail and say, okay all they want is a photograph and it’s worth money to them because Mom does movies, Dad does movies.”
Deacon and Ava deal with the paparazzi in different ways. While Phillippe’s son doesn’t mind having his picture taken, Ava’s a little more guarded: “But she’s becoming a young woman. She’s 11 years old and she doesn’t want to be photographed and be seen by her friends in magazines all the time,” said Phillipe.
How does Phillippe feel about the paparazzi? He doesn’t mind it so much: “I love drama. The reason I become an actor is because of that.”
You’re a ham, Ryan Phillippe. But you’re a handsome ham.
