Ryan Phillippe releases statement following his ex-girlfriend’s accusations of abuse
The actor is “saddened and disgusted” by Elsie Hewitt’s accusations.
Ryan Phillippe may be facing a $1 million lawsuit by his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, alleging he beat her up and threw her down some stairs.
However, he will not be going to jail or face any other kind of criminal penalties for the alleged incident. That’s because investigators don’t buy Hewitt’s version of what happened on July 4, when she says she went to the actor’s house to pick up some things, TMZ is reporting.
Phillippe on Tuesday also issued a strongly worded denial, saying that “everyone of my accuser’s allegations is false.” He added that as a public figure he’s used to having people say and write things about him that aren’t true. But this time is different, he said.
“As a man, raised by women in a household where women’s rights, feminism and advocacy were very much at the forefront, I am sickened that my name can be found in any article where domestic violence of any kind is alleged,” Phillippe wrote in a statement posted to his Twitter account. Phillippe was previously married to Reese Witherspoon for eight years.
As was confirmed by police sources cited by TMZ, Phillippe also said he fully cooperated with investigators when Hewitt initially filed her police report. Hewitt, who has modeled for Guess and Playboy, and Phillippe had just started dating in April.
Hewitt who describes herself as a “private person” posted a selfie to Instagram on Monday, thanking her followers for their support amid her recent “tribulations” and urging them to “always get back up, keep trying and stand up for yourself and what you believe in.”
we spend a lot of time on here showing our happiest moments and it’s easy to assume someone’s life is perfect. everyone’s fighting their own battles that they understandably choose not to share. sometimes it’s crazy to me that people show interest in me/my life when I’ve shared so much more of what I’m doing and how I look as opposed to who I really am. I’m a very private person but there are some tribulations I’ve been facing recently so I wanted to say thank u guys for your love, thank you to those who have been there for me, and thank you for those in my life who haven’t, for teaching me a good lesson. I think it’s important to feel all your feelings, both happy and sad in order to overcome and to grow stronger. everyone is on their own path and has their own pain. always get back up, keep trying and stand up for yourself and what you believe in. i’ll keep working hard and working on lifting my spirits and if anything, just take this as a positive reminder to be the best and kindest you can be in a struggling world full of enough suffering and hatred. i love u
We will have to wait and see to find out how this all plays out.
