Royal Chit-Chat: Kenneth Branagh Gets Knighted, Prince Harry Calls Home And Pippa Middleton’s Uggo Shoes [PHOTOS]

Actor and director Kenneth Branagh was knighted today by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth for his services in drama and to the community of Northern Ireland.

“I’m so very pleased this has happened in the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and the Paralympics,” Branagh told reporters after the ceremony, according to Anglophenia.  “It’s been a hell of a year for the UK and I feel very honoured to be a tiny part of this part of it.”

Branagh is currently directing Jack Ryan in London, starring Chris Pine.  He joins the ranks of other knighted thespians Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Laurence Olivier, Ian MacKellan and Patrick Stewart.  So many “Sirs.”

Prince Charles told a group of Australian servicemen today (November 9th) that Prince Harry, 28, has called home three times from Afghanistan.  According to the Daily Mail, Charles talked about the power of Apache helicopters, which his son is currently flying.

“They’re a nasty piece of work,” Charles told the group.  “I wouldn’t like to get in their way.”

Major Karl Reynolds told reporters that Charles seemed very proud of his son.  “He was talking about the Apache and what a lethal bit of kit they are – once the Taliban see it they disappear.

“And he was also saying he had received calls from his son, he said he had phoned three times.  It’s good Harry is phoning home, it’s so easy to do now with the internet, a letter is always good but you can’t beat a call home.”

How about those booties?  Oof, Pippa Middleton.  You’re A-OK with me, but I must insist that you burn those Timberland-ish booties.  They’re dreadful!

Let’s end things with a quote from the Duchess of Cambridge that makes me giggle.  Catherine was speaking to a St. Andrews undergrad at the university’s fundraising dinner in London last night, and recalled the dress that sealed her fate:

“I hope you weren’t involved in the fashion show, you never know what you are going to be asked to wear!
