River Phoenix’s Final Film To Be Released
River Phoenix may return to the silver screen soon, eighteen years after he died of a heart attack in front of The Viper Room in Hollywood. Phoenix was shooting director George Sluizer’s Dark Blood with Judy Davis when he passed in 1993, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sluizer kept the film under wraps for fear it would be destroyed.
With a few adjustments and a voiceover from Pheonix’s brother, Joaquin, Sluizer feels the film is ready for release. “The voices of both brothers are very much alike,” Sluizer told Reporter. Phoenix plays a hermit living in the desert who meets a jet-setting couple (played by Davis and Jonathan Pryce) looking for shelter. Phoenix’s character begins a somewhat tumultuous relationship with the wife.
