Ricky Gervais Wants ‘The Office’ In China, Won’t Replace Steve Carell

Ricky Gervais really created a solid brick of gold when he came up with the idea for BBC’s The Office which spawned a hilarious counterpart here in the states starring Steve Carell. Apparently, there are French, German and Chilean versions of The Office television series, proving that everyone everywhere hates cubicles.

Now Gervais is starting another venture in China.
A country where people seem to be relentless in their work efforts will be complaining about office life just like us Westerners. Pretty funny stuff. Gervais let people know about the news through his Twitter.

“I have some amazing news. We are about to start work on developing a Chinese ‘The
Office.’ How cool is that?” Ricky said.

People have been speculating as to who will replace Steve Carell when his contract ends with The Office after season 7. Some have claimed that Gervais should be the one, which would be absolutely hilarious in my opinion, but Ricky isn’t going for it.

“I’m not taking over from Steve Carell and will just continue to make
millions for doing f*** all,” he wrote, “because I created the show and
all the characters, and own the format and it’s being syndicated now and
I get paid every time any episode of any version is played anywhere in
the world.”

Seen here outside the ITV studios in London, England on July 19th of this year, Ricky Gervais has a pretty damn good point. Although I will still hold out hope that he changes his mind in the name of comedy.
