Ricky Martin Came Out For His Kids

November 3rd, 2010 // 1 Comment

Ricky Martin revealed that the birth of his twin sons largely influenced his decision to come out earlier this year and write his memoir Me, in stores this week.

“The moment I sat down and held my children in my arms, I said enough is enough,” says the singer, pictured signing copies of his book in NYC today. “I need to tell the world what I’m about, my nature, because not doing so would be teaching my children how to lie. I didn’t want it to be, ‘At home, we’re one thing, but when we go out, we’re another.’”

Martin, who also gave a candid interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show today, says the response from fans has been very positive and that he wishes he had come out sooner.

“The love that I’ve felt coming from the audience, from the media, it’s been amazing,” he said. “Why it took me so long, I don’t have an answer for that. All I know is that everybody has to go through their journey, through a spiritual process, to confront themselves. Some people are able to do it when they’re 17, some people can’t do it until their 30s.”

Good to see he’s found some inner peace…even if his  female fans haven’t!
