‘Project Runway All Stars’ Recap: Cocktails Inspire Drunken Fashion
On this week’s episode of Lifetime’s Project Runway All Stars the designers met at Jay Z’s hot NYC club 40/40 to find out from Alyssa Milano that they would be designing cocktail dresses inspired by cocktails.
What’s the worst that can happen when people are getting drunk before making important decisions about their designs? Surprisingly, one of the designers who had his cocktail prepared virgin style had the most whack outfit of them all.
The designers were only given $100to spend at Mood which made for some interesting fabric choices. Jeffrey chose a velvet fabric that read matronly to his fellow designers. Christopher chose curtain fabric.
When Zanna comes in to critique their designs she also gives the designers an extra challenge. They must create an accessory to their outfit using whatever fabric they can find in the workroom and the QVC wall.
The top designers are Viktor, who used a print of a cathedral to create avery couture dress, Elena, whose look seemed an exact copy of Balenciaga designs, and Christopher, whose delicate use of the curtain lace fabric read as 1920’s flapper and very expensive. Ever attractive guest judge Nate Berkus wanted Christopher’s dress to be the winner.
The bottom three were Korto, who used a fabulous fabric but paired it with patent black leather which did not match, Jeffrey, for his Vietnamese inspired look that read trashy and inexpensive, and Melissa, for her asymmetrical design that was overdone in her own season (Christopher Palu made sure to point this out).
The designers awarded Viktor the win, which is surprising because the bottom of his dress was quite revealing and opened at the crotch. They condemned Jeffrey and Melissa, eventually sending Melissa home. Jeffrey was the winner of season 3, but you sure wouldn’t know it. I don’t think the judges made the right choice. At least Melissa’s stuff was beautiful, even if it didn’t always meet the challenge requirements. Lame.
