The busiest Duchess in the world headed to another royal event, this time the Garter Day celebrations at Windsor Castle. The beaming newlywed looked on as Prince William took part in the Order of the Garter service alongside his father, Prince Charles and other senior royals. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip also participated in the service, which takes play every year on the Monday of Royal Ascot week, according to the Daily Mail.
The Garter Knights donned blue velvet robes and on their heads, back velvet hat with white plumes. Started in 1348 by Edward III, the Order is limited to the sovereign, the Prince of Wales and 24 others. Two recipients will join the Order this year, bringing the current total to 23. According to the Daily Mail, “Recipients of the honour are chosen because they have held public office, contributed to national life or served the sovereign personally.” Prince William received the Most Noble Order of the Garter back in 2008 while Prince Harry and Catherine shared a giggle over the second-in-line’s velvet hat.
