President Barack Obama landed at LAX late yesterday afternoon (May 10th) and took Marine One to George Clooney‘s Studio City, CA home where the Oscar winner hosted a fundraising dinner attended by Robert Downey Jr, Billy Crystal, Barbara Streisand, Rob Reiner, Diane von Furstenberg, Barry Diller, Eddie Murphy and Tobey Maguire, to name a few.
According to Gawker, Obama broke his previous one-night fundraiser of $11 million back in 2008 by raising (a still unconfirmed) $15 from the 150 attendees, who paid $40,000 per ticket to the exclusive dinner.
“Obviously yesterday we made some news,” Obama said during his 20-minute speech. ”But the truth is it was a logical extension of what America is supposed to be. It grew directly out of this difference in visions. Are we a country that includes everybody and gives everybody a shot and treats everybody fairly and is that going to make us stronger? Are we welcoming to immigrants? Are we welcoming to people who aren’t like us? Does that make us stronger? I believe it does. So that’s what’s at stake.”
Obama leaves for Nevada today, but will be back in Los Angeles come June for the LGBT Leadership Council Gala and a private dinner at Ryan Murphy‘s home, according to NPR.
