The American singer and actress signed her first record deal with Jive at age 12. She was 14 when she recorded her first album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, under the direction of R. Kelly. The album sold over 3 million copies in the United States and peaked at 18 on the Billboard 200. Aaliyah's second album, One In A Million, was recorded and released under Atlantic Records in 1996, selling over 8 million copies worldwide. In 2000, Aaliyah starred opposite Jet Li in Romeo Must Die. Following the success of her first film, Aaliyah landed additional roles, including a part for The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions (2003). Sadly, Aaliyah's career was halted in 2001, when a small plane she boarded leaving The Bahamas, crashed shortly after takeoff. The singer had just finished filming the video for her single "Rock The Boat," off her 2001 album Aaliyah.
