The X Factor (Fox, Wednesdays 8pmEST (performance), Thursdays 8pmEST (results))
Considering that everything Simon Cowell touches turns to gold and the fact that The Voice proved the popularity of singing competition shows is far from over, Fox has high hopes for the American version of the long running British show, The X Factor. In finding the most talented singer (or group) in the country, Simon has assembled an impressive panel of judges - and Paula Abdul (just kidding!) Super producer Antonio "LA" Reid and former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole (who was a judge on the UK version of the show for three seasons) join the reunited Simon and Paula, as well as the "fifth judge" - the audience - to discover the "next big thing". The stakes are high - the winner of the competition receives a $5 million recording contract and the pool of potential talent is even deeper, since the competitors range in age from 12 years old to old as dirt. No age limit? Does this mean we may see the return of Larry "Pants on the Ground" Platt? We really should be so lucky! Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will share hosting duties with British TV personality Steve Jones. I don't know what we're looking forward to more - bad auditions or Paula's crazy ramblings!
