People’s Choice Awards Quietly Take Place

With the writers’ strike still in full force, the People’s Choice awards looked a little different than usual, although it was no surprise when Pirates of the Caribbean won the title of Favorite Movie, which has been the case for each film in the trilogy. Joaquin Phoenix won for Best Leading Man and channeled Bob Dylan when he held up cue cards that said, “I’m speechless without the writers…Seriously…But in my own quiet way, I want to thank the millions of fans that voted for me for Favorite Leading Man.” Most acceptance speeches had been pre-recorded, as a result of the strike, and many winners took the opportunity to acknowledge the writers during their thanks. Honestly, writers or not, all I really ever care about at awards shows is bad outfits so hopefully this strike will get resolved soon so the fashion disasters can roam free on the red carpet where they belong.
