Penn Badgley Likes Meat On His Woman’s Bones

September 18th, 2008 // 15 Comments

Talking smack about the 90210 stars on the same network that broadcasts his series Gossip Girl, Penn Badgley commented on the thin physiques exhibited by the female cast of the spinoff series.

Penn said of the actresse Shenae Grimes, Jessica Stroup and AnnaLynne McCord, “I hope they eat a double cheeseburger or something.” I agree, especially for Shenae, who needs to keep her energy up in case she needs to tussle with Shannen Doherty. Badgley also went on to defend his female co-stars, claiming that the Gossip Girl ladies (one of who is his girlfriend Blake Lively) “aren’t bone-thin.”

Hmm, maybe Blake’s feeling a little sensitive, since America Ferrera recently called out his show for encouraging self-destructive behavior in young girls.

What do you think? Does anyone one either show look healthy?

I completely, 100% agree with Penn Badgley, and it’s actually a relief that someone is saying something about it. Those girls are way too thin..and there is a fine line between being healthy and just watching your weight. Just think – the camera supposedly adds 10lbs! As part of a huge, new show that is targeting the teen demographic, I think they should make those girls eat! It’s unfortunate how much these shows and actors affect young girls (and boys). I think the actress who plays Silver is especially scrawny, and none of these girls look all that healthy. So, a pat on the back to Mr. Badgley because I think part of being on such popular shows gives you role model status and it’s nice to see someone living up to that.

I agree too. I think I can safely say that all of America expects women on tv to be skinny, so we never really notice it. It’s the norm. But watching the first episode of 90210 about halfway through I started noticing all the girls had unusually thin arms, even for tv. So I watched more closely and realized that almost every main character looked so thin as to be almost odd looking. It’s actually quite disturbing. Who cast these actors? Or were they once normal figured young girls who were made to lose weight for the show??

  3. Sheema

I agree. Since when are skeletal arms attractive?

They could actually be pretty girls but they are far from pretty right now.

  4. KP

I agree, the girls are disturbingly thin. This is NOT a good example for the young girls watching the show. The ladies of Gossip Girl are definitely much healthier looking.

I’m sorry but what he said was really rude! Has he seen his costars lately? They are equally as thin as the girls on 90210! Saying that they “need to eat a cheeseburger” is not only disrespectful but it is also hurtful to these young girls who are naturally thin. People need to get over themselves.

the girls on gossip girl are NOT as thin as the girls on 90210. i agree with him 100%. they are TOOOO skinny especially the middle chick. when she puts her arms up/out…straight up bone. ew

    jp:

you sound like the fat chick in high school who lurks around the ladies room stalls kissing the popular girls’ ass as they throw up their lunch. get a fucking grip.

  8. Danielle

I think they look great! I would love to look like them. Statistics show that most of America is overweight anyway so maybe we just don’t realize it but they are actually what we SHOULD look like.

    JP-

I’m sorry, but I seriously have to disagree with you. They aren’t naturally that thin. Shenae Grimes was on the Canadian version of a 90210 remake called Degrassi: The Next Generation, in that show she was no where near as thin as she is in 90210. Yes, she’s thin, but wasn’t even close to being that thin. And it does negatively effect girls. Most girls have some form of an eating disorder and it’s really sad.

Danielle, we should not eat and become obese but we should not look like we were in a famine either. america ferrera is absolutely right. having such thin girls on tv just gives people with eating disorders more thinspo. it’s stupid. they should put on at least 15 lbs. they’re prob a double zero.

    stellasells:

I agree with you, but just for the record, Degrassi: The Next Generation is a spin-off Degrassi Jr High from the late 80s, which was a spin-off of The Kids of Degrassi Street from the early 80s – all before the original 90210 ever aired.

What I want to know is what Shenae Grimes’s tattoo says.

  13. a79a

hahah I can’t believe someone thought Degrassi was a spinoff of 90210, there are nothing alike and I watched that shit like in the 80s

I think they look unhealthy but I also could give a rat’s @ss. As long as I look amazing (and I do), why do I care how the rest of America looks? (I don’t) To each his own. If these girls want to stupidly starve themselves, let them. Little girls need to stop being stupid and emulating random TV actresses whom they don’t even know.

  15. Jennifer Morris

the girls on 90210 are WAY too thin and set a horrible example for young girls. Jessica Stroup is absolutely GORGEOUS but obviously has an eating disorder – you can search the web for picture of her taken about a year or two ago, in the movie “Prom Night,” and she was an average sized girl. Hopefully she will realize how talented she is and how beautiful she is before something potentially fatal happens to her.
