Seven students at Oprah Winfrey‘s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa are facing disciplinary reprimands after engaging in reported “inappropriate behaviors,” which include sexual misconduct. This is the second scandal facing the school in two years, both times resulting in unwanted international attention.
Three of the children have consequently been suspended and four expelled. Winfrey, the school’s benefactor, has released a statement explaining, “Indiscretions resulting in disciplinary action are common in schools all over the world. Unfortunately, because of my name these common infractions place the Academy in the media spotlight.”
A South African publication, Afrikaans on Sunday, claims that a 15-year-old student “preyed” on another and used intimidation tactics on others in order to cover her tracks.
