Oprah Winfrey is fulfilling her lifelong dream of visiting Australia this week and it just so happens she’s invited 300 lucky fans along. She’s taking them on the ‘Ultimate Australian Adventure’ for a fully-paid 8-day trip, which has seen her visiting Anangu Aboriginal children, playing in the ocean, holding a koala bear and throwing a beach party.
Who was in tow? Gayle King, duh! She also spoke about her visit and said she was just blown away by everything…
“I think the word awesome applies… it strikes awe in your soul when you see it,” she said upon visiting Ayers Rock.
“Me being here is a way of paying respects to the Aboriginal people and showing respect for the land and their culture and all that this rock means to them and the continent and to the world,” she said.
She’ll be filming two episodes of her show next week at the Sydney Opera House, with about 12,000 Australians expected to watch the filming live.
In a new interview with Barbara Walters, Oprah breaks down about her relationship with King, 55, and how they have supported each other for many years and they are so close that she appointed her friend as the editor for O, her monthly magazine.
“She’s the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend everybody deserves. I don’t know a better person,’ said Winfrey as she welled up. “I don’t know a better person.”
That interview airs tonight.
