One Direction, George Michael & More Rock The 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony [PHOTOS & VIDEO]

Royals at the Olympics

What a way to end the 2012 summer Olympics!

While the opening ceremony was all good and fancy, last night’s closing ceremony, entitled “A Symphony of British Music“, was the big party that brought the pop and circumstance. Yup, I just made that joke. For you skeptics, check out some videos of the ceremony after the jump.

Teen sensation One Direction rocked the house as they performed their signature “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” on the back of a long and giant truck. You could barely hear them singing through all the fan girls cheering in the crowd. What other magical things happened at the closing ceremony?

George Michael took to the stage after nearly a year of not performing. All of his issues of the past year totally slipped to the wayside as he sang a fabulous version of his hit “Freedom”. You know he’s a true performer when he’s gyrating for the crowd like that.

Other highlights included Annie Lennox singing “Little Bird” dressed as a bird on a giant ship. You think I’m making this up? Lies! Russell Brand also performed as a weird, psychedelic character on top of a VW bus singing the Beatles’ classic “I Am The Walrus”. Let’s just say it was…interesting.

Also, Eric Idle singing “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” was perhaps one of the greatest moments in Olympic history. Yup, I’m putting it up there with Tom Daly’s abs.

Launch the gallery to check out some choice shots from the closing ceremony. Now that you’ve checked out pictures and, of course, the videos, tell us which was your favorite part of the closing ceremony in the comments!
