OMFG: Julie Andrews, Kate Middleton And National Princess Week
The Los Angeles Times reports that National Princess Week is currently going on (April 22nd-28th), started by Disney to celebrate (and push sales of the blue-ray realse of) the tenth anniversary of The Princess Diaries & The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Game on!
At the Times’ Festival of Books event Sunday, Andrews read aloud The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl! the latest book in her “A Very Fairy Princess” series, which she coauthored with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton.
When the Times asked Andrews about how princesses in fairy tales measure up to today’s royal standards, she referred to the now Duchess of Cambridge and her increasingly busy schedule as a member of the monarchy.
“There’s a lot more to princesses these days,” Andrews explained. “Their civic duties alone. Look at Kate [Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge], the new lovely princess we have in Britain right now. I think she’s probably extremely hard-working and has an enormous amount of responsibility speaking for the royal family and doing her royal duties and going out to her charities. It’s a very busy and hard life.”
