Nicole Richie To Mentor Contestants On NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’

Nicole Richie is clearly a fashion icon! (Really?) So it’s no surprise that NBC has tapped her to be a mentor on their new show Fashion Star. (Another fashion design show?) Entertainment Weekly says that the Fashion Star differs from other design shows as it allows audience members to buy contestants designs after each show. (So it’s like The Voice of fashion.) No wonder she looked so happy on the beach during July 4th. Check out the gallery to see just how happy!

Richie joins super fashionable men’s designer John Varvatos, Jessica Simpson, and host Elle Macpherson. NBC’s Paul Telegdy, executive vice-president of alternative programming told EW:

“NBC could not have asked for better additions to the celebrity mentors than John Varvatos, one of the most well-known menswear designers in the nation and international style icon and creative director, Nicole Richie. Both are trendsetters and tastemakers and their design skills and expertise will be invaluable to our contestants on the series.”

I guess Nicole could be considered an icon. She has a new handbag line. And Jessica back on television? Why I do believe that might be some quotable comedic gold right there. But doesn’t it seem like a fashion version of The Voice? Fancy celebs “mentoring and coaching” the young newbies? Hmmm?

Hopefully it’ll be fun to watch. What do you guys think? Will you be checking it out? I haven’t been able to find another design show I like since I started boycotting Project Runway when it moved to Lifetime, so this might be a good alternative. Thoughts?
