Princess Grace of Monaco was an icon both in Hollywood and around the world. The Philadelphia-born actress married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, and to this day, girls try to emulate her ladylike style.
Lynn Wyatt, who was a close friend of the Princess, recalled a moment when she couldn’t help but stare at her beautiful friend.
“I remember I was at the Monte Carlo Beach Club, and she had all her hair up under this big hat, and I said, ‘Excuse me, Grace, I’m staring at you,” Wyatt told People Magazine at Monday night’s Princess Grace Awards Gala.
“You know, when you’re good friends with someone you know them more inside than out, but her cheekbones, and just the way her eyes [looked], everything under that big hat, she was just so beautiful. I just said ‘Grace, forgive me, but I’m staring at you.’ And she just said, ‘Oh, Lynn.’ “
Nicole Kidman, who is currently filming Grace of Monaco, will portray the late Princess circa 1962. Wyatt personally approves the casting. She’s beautiful inside and out, and she’s very sweet,” Wyatt said of Kidman.
Princess Grace died in 1982 when the Rover P6 she was driving veered off the road and down a mountainside. Princess Stephanie was in the passenger seat, but survived the crash. It is believed that Grace suffered a stroke and lost control of the car.
