Neil Patrick Harris, Courtney Love, Sean Avery, Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore were among the celebrities attending the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Americans for Marriage Equality campaign launch event.
Monday’s New York City party was hosted by the Calvin Klein Collection‘s creative team of Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli. The event was held to introduce Americans for Marriage Equality USA, an advocacy program that promotes “love, family and commitment” and the rights of gays and lesbians to wed.
T Magazine asked the celebs what commitment means to them and here are some of their answers:
Neil Patrick Harris, actor: I think it means being able to be confident in longevity. When it’s vague, it doesn’t feel solid. Was that too pompous?
Sean Avery, hockey player, New York Rangers: My mother tells me I have commitment phobia. I’m trying to find the deep definition of that word. That’s the truth.
Courtney Love, musician: That’s not a simple question — I’ll think about it.
Julianne Moore, actress: Oh, wow — everything! It’s a big challenge as an adult to be committed to something or somebody. It’s the final symbol of maturation. Everybody has that right.
