Natalie Portman Thinks Eating Meat Should Be Illegal

October 27th, 2009 // 17 Comments

Recently, Natalie Portman employed her activist fingers in writing an op-ed feature for the Huffington Post, in which she asserts her vegetarian position.

The title of the 28-year-old Harvard graduate’s piece is entitled, Jonathan Safran Foer’s ‘Eating Animals Turned Me Vegan,’ and in it, the actress expresses her belief that vegetarianism is the only ethical choice.

Of the author, she writes, “[Foer] posits that consideration, as promoted by Michael Pollan in The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which has more to do with being polite to your tablemates than sticking to your own ideals, would be absurd if applied to any other belief (e.g., I don’t believe in rape, but if it’s what it takes to please my dinner hosts, then so be it).”

Sorry to be tangential, but this totally reminds me of a dinner party I once threw for Mike Tyson. Kidding! But seriously, did you guys see his interview on Oprah? Interesting stuff.

what happened to the days when actresses just did their job ?…. ACT

leave the hard thinking to people who live REAL life, not the pretense that you experience

just because she went to harvard doesn’t make her smarter than the woman/man who went to university of kentucky. people only pay attention to what she says because she’s an ACTRESS not because she’s a scholar

You guys should watch Fast Food Nation.

She has her opinion and she is entitled to that as long as she doesn’t force it on others. My opinion is that she shouldn’t be allowed to speak but that isn’t something I would want to force on others.

What she wrote in the artical is true. It’s cruel the way animals are bred and slaughtered for human consumption. Just because people think animals are at the bottom of the food chain doesn’t mean they should be treated so badly. I’m a vegetarian (trying my best to go vegan) but my boyfriend eats meat so I’m not saying everyone should stop eating meat. I just think people should consume less meat and dairy. It would help the animals and the environment due to cattle causing wide spread land degradation and many other environmental issues.

And remember these are the same people who are in bed with the far-left opportunists who ride around in jets and drive cars which create carbon emissions of which they speak so highly against. Now if i recall correctly, the earth’s flora needs carbon to breath in therefore exporting oxygen for use to survive. Also volcanoes alone put out more emissions then what humans are capable of. Going to Harvard, making lot’s of money, having fame and having degrees does not make a person wise. Much of the time the most simple of solutions are the right ones and just having common sense. Actors are amongst the most ignorant and hypocritical people there are and they have all of the power including some idiot politicians. They live in there narrow minded world but these actors and musicians like Moby need to stay in there jobs and not try and change the world to support there views and only there views.

Animal agriculture is responsible for as much as 18% of the total release of greenhouse gases world-wide (this is more than the whole transportation sector). It is also responsible for local pollution from animal waste and chemical use and for greenhouse gas emissions from the energy-intensive process of growing feed and raising livestock, plus the byproducts of animal digestion. Plus livestock now uses 30% of the earth’s entire land surface and more forests are being cleared to create more pastures to take up even more land. But what would I know, I’m just some hypocrite vegetarian who listens to Moby and Natlie Portman and agrees with THEIR left wing ways.

    Lol, you said

“She has her opinion and she is entitled to that as long as she doesn’t force it on others. My opinion is that she shouldn’t be allowed to speak but that isn’t something I would want to force on others.”

Why should she not be allowed to speak? She’s actually speaking on behalf of many ethical vegan and vegetarians who don’t have the celebrity status to reach a lot of people.

And you can’t force an opinion on someone. She gives you cold hard truth about the realities of factory farming to form your own opinion. It’s unfortunate that you’re too close minded to even attempt it, and still have the balls to scold her for having one. Incredible.

That’s odd, I read that piece and I don’t recall her saying that she thinks “eating meat should be illegal”. Would you please direct me to that passage?

She might be a really good actress but regardless just because she is vastly famous does not mean she has the right to suggest a silly stupid law that will never be enforced in this time era.

Media is to blame for why people eat meat. Everyone grows up eating meat and no one tells you that it is wrong. You see cooking shows cooking meat, you have restaraunts serving meat, your parents and everyone you know eat meat and they are good people, and you see movies making the vegans look like fags. So your led to believe that there is nothing wrong with eating meat and media makes you believe that the vegans are lame, weird and outcasts. Media is such a strong influence on your thinking that even when your slapped in the face with the truth you still deny it. You people can watch a slaughterhouse video and see the torture these poor animals go through just so you can have a hotdog but you walk away saying something like “thats dumb” or “we have to eat meat”. Media has you calling someone like Natalie Portman dumb even though she went to HARVARD!! What school did all you people go too? (That is If you even went to college..) But ya you guys are smarter and shes the stupid actress. Someone on here called her a dumb ACTOR lol Your told all your life that murder is wrong and eating people is wrong. So what do you people believe? You believe that murder is wrong and eating people is wrong. But there is NO DIFFERENCE between a murderer and a butcher except that the butcher is excepted in society. But you guys dont believe that they are the same because no one told you to believe that. The consentration camps are looked at as one of the worst things in history that humans have ever done. Consentration camps and slaughterhouses are the same thing! The only difference is that Consentration camps had people getting tortured and slaughterhouses have animals. But you guys cannot make that connection because no body told you too. Everyone here fears death and so do animals. So why is it okay that they die? We dont need meat we dont need to kill them. Quit believing what the media told you, accept the fact that you were wrong (I know how people HATE to admit they are wrong but you are wrong now admit it) If you would just think for yourself just once you would realize that you need to change. We can save millions and millions and millions of animals lives if everyone went vegetarian. Natalie is right eating meat should be illegal and if you think otherwise your a piece of shit and i would love for you to get the same treatment these animals get.

With the exception of the Star Wars prequels, I’ve never watched her movies. Natalie Portman is a hypocrite. She broke her vow of “vegetarianism” (i.e. VEGANISM) when she was pregnant; she admits that she consumed eggs and dairy products then. She also happens to be a Democrat, which is a political party that is supposedly against the government legislating morality (except maybe on gun ownership and school truancy). She is also of Jewish background, a religion that claims adultery is wrong; should one of her heroes, Bill Clinton, go to prison for committing adultery? What about sending him to jail for eating a BIG MAC with all that meat, like he did in the ’90s? She is a hypocrite — she thinks that government should legislate morality, just like most Democrats and Republicans…
