Thor’s got himself a leading lady! The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Natalie Portman has been cast as Jane Foster, the female lead in Thor, Marvel Studios’ adaptation of its comic books about the Norse god of thunder.

Kenneth Branagh is directing the film, which stars Star Trek hottie Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, the god of mischief who serves as the film’s villain. Natalie’s character was a nurse in the early comics who became Thor’s first love, although the studio says that the character will be updated for the film.

Thor will mark Marvel’s first attempt at an epic fantasy adventure that spans from present-day Earth to the realm of Asgard. The film will center on Norse god Thor, who is cast down to Earth after restarting an ancient war in Asgard. On Earth, Thor becomes a super baller hero when Loki, the dangerous villain of his world, sends dark forces to invade Earth.

The film begins production in early 2010 and is set to be released in May of 2011. Safe to say I am uber excited for this film. Chris Hemsworth is so hot and just imagining him in the Thor is getting me excited. And Natalie Portman is pretty hot too. I’m only hoping for good things from this film.

Up next for Natalie is the film Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal and Spiderman himself Tobey Maguire, which also looks pretty good. Yay good movies!
