While Phil Spector sits around waiting for his murder trial to begin, his girl-pop sound of the Ronettes lives on through the U.K. girl-group, The Pipettes. Their sound and style earned these ladies
comparisons to some of the great girl groups of the 1960′s. I’m not sure if they deserve that kind of honor yet, but they know how to write a fun pop-song.
The band formed Spice Girl-style through their Svengali, Monster Bobby. Rumor has it Bobby formed the group as an experiment in manufactured fame–the girls were individually recruited, dressed in matching polka-dot dresses, and taught some cute dance moves. The chatter surrounding their debut disc, We Are the Pipettes, caused the band’s popularity to soar in Great Britain and Australia.
