MTV Pulls Punch Clip From Jersey Shore

December 13th, 2009 // 4 Comments

It’s time to stop being polite, and start getting real!  Ok, that was cheesy, but as a New Yorker, I can tell you that Jersey Shore on MTV is actually the most ‘real’ of any reality shows on television today.  Especially when you compare it to The Hills, which is basically a sitcom now.

Well, the punch heard ’round the world has been yanked, which I think we all could have seen coming.  Us reported yesterday that among unending controversy being caused by the show’s portrayal of Italian-Americans (or ‘guidos’ as the cast likes to call themselves), as well as the ubiquitous bar-fight clip, MTV finally cracked under the heat.

“What happened to “Snooki” was a crime and obviously extremely disturbing,” MTV said in a statement Friday. “After hearing from our viewers, further consulting with experts on the issue of violence, and seeing how the video footage has been taken out of context to not show the severity of this act or the resulting consequences, MTV has decided not to air “Snooki” being physically punched in next week’s episode.”

Alright, this is not a snuff film, people.  Women do get hit, all the time, all over the world.  As upsetting as it is, shouldn’t we be exposing ourselves to these shocking images in the hopes that it will stop violence against women from happening?  I think censoring these images is tantamount to pretending like these things don’t happen.  Give me the truth and let me decide what to believe.

Alright, I’m off my soap box.  Let’s get drunk and get crazy, you guys!

I think he should have been arrested on the spot. You are correct in saying the show is “dead on” how it depicts – what do they call themselves – “Guidos.” I think they were right to yank it, though it hardly matters since everyone has seen it on the internet already. Snicker Doodle should sue that asshole and MTV. How tall is she anyway?

No way I want to relive living in an apartment and dealing with the loud, rude, deviant crazies of the northeast again…

This is why I don’t like MTV. This is a REALITY show. Why don’t you show what is REAL?

The punch was the only reason I was going to continue watching. Thanks for being PC MTV.

PS. Fire whomever does your consulting.
