Today’s second swearing-in was just a powerful as the first time President Barack Obama took the oath of office. The public ceremony took place today, but President Obama and his family – wife Michelle and daughters Sash and Malia – took part in a private ceremony yesterday.
“My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment,” Obama said to 800,000 people from the Capitol steps, “and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together.”
Beyonce, wearing earrings and a ring by Lorraine Schwartz (yes, lots of karats), sang a very moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner,” and Kelly Clarkson sang “My Country, Tis Of Thee,” accompanied by the United States Marine Band.
The First Lady wore a checkered-patterned coat and dress by Thom Browne, a Reed Krakoff cardigan and necklace by Cathy Waterman, according to CBS News. The shoes and belt were from J. Crew (natch). Malia followed mom’s lead by wearing J. Crew, but Sasha (a girl after my own heart) chose Kate Spade.
